Easton Press wanted an edition that broke away from the traditional, whimsical "Victorian postcard" style of illustration and instead honored the deeper, darker ghost-story roots of Dickens’ original text. The choice of Jeremy Caniglia as the illustrator was a bit unorthodox for a classic holiday book. Caniglia is heavily rooted in the Dark Fantasy and Horror genres. He won the prestigious International Horror Guild Award for Best Artist in 2004 and has frequently created art for heavyweights like Stephen King, Peter Straub, and Ray Bradbury, as well as working with Warner Home Video on documentaries for The Exorcist. By bringing a master of dark art to A Christmas Carol, the edition successfully emphasizes the eerie, haunting psychological reality of Scrooge’s journey—making Marley and the spirits feel genuinely otherworldly rather than cartoonish. The book is in Fine condition, near as new, original owner purchased for shelf value, never read. All edges gilt. / Slipcase in Christmas red cloth, complementing the green leather book, with gilt / red wreath on the front, encircling a copy of the last plate, Tiny Tim on a crutch wishing the world a Merry Christmas. Light rubbing on rear. Item #3435
"A merry Christmas, Bob!" said Scrooge, with an earnestness that could not be mistaken, as he clapped him on the back...I'll raise your salary, and endeavour to assist your struggling family, and we will discuss your affairs this very afternoon." (p 146).
