Decorative gilt rule on the front cover with knight and steed in profile and heraldic them in red and gilt. Enhancing the volumes are bronze moire endpapers and matching satin bookmarks still tucked in. 6 3/4" x 9 3/4", ~250+ pp. in each of four volumes. Cover designs by Michael Mendelsohn. Pyle didn't just retell the stories; he wove together various medieval sources (primarily Sir Thomas Malory’s Le Morte d'Arthur) and infused them with his own rich, moral narrative style and beautiful pen-and-ink illustrations. There are nearly four dozens of illustrations in each volume. Near as new, purchased by original owner for shelf value, not to be read. All edges gilt and brilliantly gilt cover yields a very attractive set. Item #3425
