Gilt titling and decorative panels, gilt borders on front and back cover and decorative gilt centery board design. Bronze moire end papers and matching satin book marks still tucked into the pages. 7.5" x 9.5", ~ 300 pp. in each of four volumes. Each volume has allusive water colors and multiple line drawing Illustrations by Lawrence Beall Smith (Innocence), Alan Philips (New York), Henry Varnum Poor (Fromme), and Lily Harmon, as well as a color frontispiece. The "grande dame" of American letters, Mrs. Wharton lived to the full in the social world as well as in the creative. By the time of her death in 1937 Edith Wharton had produced some thirty novels, ten volumes of short stories, two of verse, three travel books an autobiography and a work of criticism. Near as new, purchased by original owner for shelf value, not for reading. All edges gilt. Item #3420
