Tucked into the Pacific Northwest region of the United States is our 42^nd State. It is named after the first president of the U.S., George Washington. The state was carved out of the western part of the Washington Territory ceded by Great Britain in 1846. It was admitted to the Union on Nov. 11, 1889.
