A. in script on the cover. 10.5" x 13", Vol. 1, xxxi, The Plates (1-223), 8 of which are fold-outs. Vol. 2 The Plates (224-431), also with fold out plates. Frontispiece portrait by John Syme. Uniform sunning on the spine, some light spotting on the rear of Vol. 1 and front of Vol. 2. Poor slip case which has done its job of protecting these books. But its really all about paintings of birds by perhaps the greatest American Naturalis. There is no better way to spend a rainy Sunday afternoon than with Audubon on your lap. Very good. Item #985

Plate 176, Long-tailed Jaeger (Stercorarius longicaudus) Remarking on this bird's powerful flight, Audubon noted that 'its beautiful long tail-feathers seem at times to afford this bird great assistance in executing short sudden turns, which have often brought to my mind the notions of a greyhound while pursuing a hare."
