Frontispiece, with hand colored (red) crown being handed to a seated Caesar. Also includes 11 beautiful copper engraved portraits of other Roman emperors, created by Reinier van Persyn (1617 - 1668). Red edges, light toning, sporadic foxing in this otherwise tight and well bound volume. Ivory vellum cover has title hand written on the spine, flourishes (eight in each corner of front / back covers) and border blind stamped. The cover has two small semicircular stains, spine heavily sunned, approx. 1" tear at top of spine and less than at edges of top of spine, separation at inside gutter. Five small holes (insect?) at front edge and cover. Three previous owner names neatly printed at the top margin of front endpapers, dating from 17th - 19th century.
