Seattle: Lowman and Hanford Company, 1935. First Edition. Dark blue cloth over boards with sparkling gilt titling on spine and cover. 9" x 6", pp. xiv, 1-631, with frontispiece and 20 illustrations. Condition collectible copy with only a small four digit number on top right of rep, and <1" rough spot from label removal on ffe. The book is clean, bright, tight and well bound. Written by a former teacher, this book reconstructs much of the history of these early schools which documents were lost to fires in the early years. Fine minus notation / not issued. Item #1415

"When the pupils did not like the teacher they made it very hard and often impossible for him to hold school. One time the disapproval took the form of boarding up all the windows and doors tightly with many nails to hold the boards, that the reopening might be as difficult as possible." (p 304).
